My Ednita Nazario “Una Vida” Concert Experience

The “Una Vida” (One Life) concert we attended was a remarkable music journey though the career of Ednita Nazario.

Special Concert in Ponce, Puerto Rico

My wife and I attended a special concert, which is part of Ednita’s “Una Vida” tour. The concert we attended at the Ponce Hilton Hotel in Ponce, Puerto Rico was special in more than one way.

For one, this particular concert was to benefit the Puerto Rico Women Volleyball Association.

Another thing that made this concert special was the venue. The Ponce Hilton provided a small enough hall for an intimate concert, particularly if you compare it to the huge venues of the Coliseos in San Juan.

Lastly, this was a rare concert in Ednita’s hometown of Ponce.

Late but Good

Ednita Nazario was fashionably late to the concert. The concert was supposed to start at 9 PM. However at about 9:20 PM a young woman singer came out to do her opening act. After five of her songs and the clock approaching 10 PM Ednita finally came out to sing.

The “Una Vida” concert offered by the Puerto Rican diva Ednita Nazario was a sure crowd pleaser.

Ednita came out dressed in a conservative red and black suit. She immediately delighted the audience with a great banquet of songs. These were a mix of her classic hits as well as some of the new songs from her latest album.

The hometown diva was impressive and charming. Ednita’s voice was clear, powerful, and beautiful as always. Besides providing us in the audience with great songs and interpretations to enjoy, Ednita also showcased her charming personality on stage throughout the concert.

Ednita took time in-between songs to engage with her audience, telling jokes, talking about Puerto Rico’s recovery from last year‘s hurricanes, and highlighting her support for the Puerto Rico Women’s Volleyball Federation.

For me, what makes Ednita a remarkable artist is her passion, humbleness, and ability to connect with her fans. Through the songs, you can see and hear her passion performing each song. At times, she would let the audience sing solo. This is something that I’m always a bit hesitant to see from artists. Hey, I paid to see her sing, not to listen to the audience sing. Howver, she chose wisely when to let the audience sings and when to keep control of the concert for those of us who came to see her perform.

An artist is not a manufacturer of songs, giving always the same performance time after time. A real artist will bring something new to each performance. Ednita did just that with her jokes, anecdotes, and other comments to the audience. In doing so, she leveled with the audience and won our hearts!

Ednita: Diva Pa’ Rato (Diva for Long)

After close to 50 years of a music career, Ednita shows no sign of decline. The Puerto Rican diva, who has dedicated “Una Vida” to Latin music, continues to sing and charm as well as ever. We were lucky to witness one of the legendary artists in Latin Music, still un full use of the talent, and in a rare performance at her hometown.

Ponce has provide many musical legacies. It’s the birthplace of the rhythm of “Plena”. The “Danza” was popularized here by the many compositions and talent of Juan Morel Campos. Salsa artists like Hector Lavoe, Cheo Feliciano, and Pete El Conde were born here. Let’s not forget the Salsa institution called the Sonora Poncena.

We have to add Ednita Nazario to the list of legendary artists from Ponce, Puerto Rico, and Latin America!
