Serie del Caribe Swings with Plena Libre

The 2015 “Serie del Caribe” brings together 5 Latin American countries that have great baseball and great music for a week of competition and entertainment. This spirit is embodied in Plena Libre’s song “El Barrio Esta Encendido”.

Plena is the rhythm of choice by Puerto Ricans to party “on-the-run”. It has been the rhythm of choice for 3 main reasons: a) it authentically Puerto Rican, b) it’s extremely portable, and c) it’s extremely happy and contagious!

The “Serie del Caribe” is a feast of baseball and music, hosted in 2015 by San Juan, Puerto Rico.

In Puerto Rico, the “Serie del Caribe” (the Caribbean Baseball’s World Series) occurs a couple of weeks after the famous Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastian, where Plena takes center stage. So this year Puerto Rican band Plena Libre was chosen to come up with the 2015 “Serie del Caribe” theme song.

“El Barrio Esta Encendido” is the song that captures the spirit of host San Juan, Puerto Rico for this feast of baseball and music. It’s a catchy plena that cheers for the local team and welcomes the visiting countries. And let me tell you, the visiting countries bring their own party as well.

In the Hiram Bithorn stadium seats you will hear Merengue, Salsa & Llaneras, and Rancheras played by the fans of the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Mexico respectively. Cuba relies mostly on local fans, that tend to be a bit quieter, perhaps because of the politics involved.

But its great to see 5 Latin American countries come together in a feast of baseball and music for the enjoyment of the fans.
