You might not recognize the name of Cesar Portillo, but if you care about Latin music history perhaps you want to read below to learn about an important figure in Latin music, particularly the Bolero Filin.
The news came out this week that Cuban Bolero songwriter Cesar Portillo de la Luz just passed away. Portillo de la Luz wrote bolero standards like “Contigo en la distancia” and “Tú mi delirio”. I recently finished a series of blogs on the Bolero-Filin, a Cuban variation of the traditional Bolero.
I wrote three blogs (or 3 parts) of the Bolero Filin. If you want to learn just a little about how the Bolero Filin emerged and the importance it had in Latin music, I suggest you read at least the 1st part where this is explained.
The 2nd and 3rd blogs focus on a couple of individuals that were also key in the development of the Bolero Filin; Juan Antonio Mendez and Emilio Flynn respectively. You can find the Part 1 introductory blog HERE, and also go to Part 2 or Part 3 if you wish to learn more.
I’m not sure if I will continue blogging about some of the Latin music genres. Would you miss them if I didn’t write about them?
