Welcome to a different type of Latin music blog. I’m Héctor R. Avilés, your host here at Latino Music Café.

The purpose of Latino Music Café is to go deeper into our Latin music and culture. This is about sharing knowledge about our music. We’re not about covering the latest superficial Latin music hot topic everyone else is talking about.

In this Latin music blog, I write about the origins and history of Latin music genres. This includes the people, traditions, places, and instruments that made them flourish. In short, I enjoy writing about our Latin music roots!

What You’ll Find in this Latin Music Blog

El Gran Combo circa 1962
The blog series “History of El Gran Combo” covers one decade per blog.

In addition to the topics I mentioned above, here you’ll also find in-depth blogs about artists, interviews, and album reviews (new and old classics). Additionally, I provide critical points of view regarding any topic around Latin music.

I tend to favor blogs on Salsa and Latin Jazz as they are my favorite genres. However, I also write about Boleros, Latin Pop, Latin Rock, Reggaetón, Vallenato, Merengue, Tango, Ranchera, Trova, and just about any music from Latin America. (Note: check the hyperlinks).

Latino Music Café supports the work of Latino musicians by giving them a platform of exposure. It doesn’t matter if they are legends of the past, current veterans, established or rising stars, or even talented and relatively unknown beginners.

Latino Music Cafe in Social Media

Maracas photo.
The blog “Latin Music History; the Maracas Indigenous Origins” is one of the most popular blogs on Latin music history.

I use social sites like Facebook and YouTube to share Latin music news and to publish links to our new blog posts. You can also subscribe to Latino Music Café to get those new blog notifications via email or RSS (I don’t spam nor give away that information).

Finally, you can learn a little more about me on the “About Me” page of this site (including a video where I explain all this).

I hope you enjoy Latino Music Café and that I’ll be reading your comments on my blogs soon!

Saludos!

Hey There…just thought I would let you know about this…could be good to post. Subway & Univision are selecting videos of people singing the Subway theme song and choosing the best to send to a NYC Univision Radio concert. The site is: http://www.subwayartistasfrescos.com and looks like not many people have uploaded videos, so the chances are GOOD. The finalists will be chosen next week. Maybe people could write about being the winner on here?

      Hi Misty,
I was going through my old blogs in Latino Music Café and noticed this comment from January. Somehow I missed it. Too late to promote that event, but let me know what you are up to and if I can help promote your work in the future.

      Best,

I’m presently putting together a series of Boogaloo albums for Fania Records. Any of your favorites that should be considered ? All this in conjunction with the release of the Boogaloo film “We Like It Like That”. Check out trailer at http://www.boogaloomovie.com

      Bobby,
Thanks for reaching out. I’ll be delighted to help you with this project. I have some ideas on how to do that. I’ll send you an email and we can go from there. Boogaloo was a big craze in Latin music, and people seem to want more of it.
      Saludos!
